Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) is run by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust; the largest NHS Foundation Trust in England.
The Manchester CRF at MRI supports adult and paediatric studies across a diverse range of clinical speciality areas, and provides a dedicated and safe space for delivering clinical research studies.
Taking part in a research study at Manchester CRF at MRI
The type of research study you take part it will determine how long your stay at Manchester CRF lasts, and the frequency of visits you will need to need to make. Study stays can last from a few hours to several days.
Study visits will take place in one of our four-bedded male or female bays or outpatient rooms.
Meals and refreshments
For short visits light refreshments will be provided and for longer visits, refreshments and meals will be provided as per the requirement of the studies. Chaperone services are available if required.
Overnight stays
When overnight stays are required we suggest bringing an overnight bag with toiletries, pyjamas and a change of clothes.
The facility has free Wi-Fi access, IPADS, Audible reading book and Netflix which can be provided for long visits and during inpatient visits stays.
Our Young Adult Lounge has facilities such as comfy sofas, notice boards, suggestion boxes, reading books, study area, device chargers, DVD games and television
Chaplaincy information, a variety of religious prayer books, and prayer mats are available on request from your study team.
How to find Manchester CRF at MRI
Study participants at Manchester CRF at MRI are entitled to free parking at the Grafton Street Carpark and a single disabled bay located on Nelson Street. Please discuss the reimbursement of travel costs with your study team prior to your visit.
The building is entered from the ground floor and facilities include an accessible lift, toilet, shower and baby changing facilities. We are a dementia friendly environment and accessible for the visually impaired. Interpreter services are available.

Manchester CRF at the MRI is currently operating a COVID-19 isolation area. Access to this area is strictly limited and we have processes in place to ensure there is no contact between participants in our COVID-19 trials and others. If you have any questions please contact your study team.
